US Department of Transportation to Provide $250,000 in Funding for Airport Marketing

The US Department of Transportation announced recently the selection of Hilton Head Island Airport as a recipient of a $250,000 grant award for marketing.

The Airport’s award is one of 25 grants under the Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASD), which benefits communities nationwide.

“We are extremely grateful to the DOT for selecting Hilton Head Island Airport as one of the award recipients this year,” said Joe Passiment, Chairman of Beaufort County Council. “The funds will be used to highlight the beauty of our County and ensure people know it is a wonderful place to live, work, and play.”

The federal grant will educate travelers far and wide about the benefits of flying directly to the Island’s airport. In particular, the proximity to resorts, public transportation, and inexpensive cab fare, to name a few. Travelers often fly into competing Airports, unaware they have limited options and another hour of travel time.

Recent upgrades to the airport and expanded air service options make Hilton Head Island Airport the best choice for those wishing to access the Lowcountry without the hassle.

“Our community partners and all who contributed to our winning application for these funds should be commended,” Jon Rembold, Airports Director for Beaufort County and the Hilton Head Island Airport. “It’s through these partnerships that great things happen and this is a notable example.”
