Town of Hilton Head Island issued the following announcement on January 27.

The Hilton Head Island Town Council’s Finance and Administrative Committee will conduct a series of public engagement workshops soliciting public input on preliminary redistricting maps for the Island.

The workshops are scheduled as follows:

  • Thursday, February 3, at 4 pm at the Hilton Head PSD Community Room, 21 Oak Park Drive.
  • Monday, February 14, at 1 pm at the Hilton Head Branch Library, 11 Beach City Road.
  • Wednesday, February 16, at 10 am at Town Hall in the Benjamin M. Racusin Council Chambers, 1 Town Center Court.
  • Tuesday, February 22, at 2 pm at the Island Recreation Center, 20 Wilborn Road.

A quorum of Town Council may result if four or more members are in attendance at any of the scheduled workshops.

Residents may also provide comments or questions about redistricting and obtain additional information about the redistricting process through the Town’s website at www.hiltonheadislandsc.gov/redistricting.

Redistricting is the process of redrawing state legislative and congressional district boundaries. Community input is vital to a fair redistricting process.

Every 10 years following the Census, the state constitution and state law, among other authorities, require South Carolina to redraw electoral boundaries to account for population shifts and ensure equal representation. This process affects all jurisdictions that have single-member elections, whether for members of Congress, state legislatures, county councils, city councils, school boards, and other political bodies.
