The Town of Hilton Head Island now owns a 12.019-acre tract of land along Jonesville Road.

After approving to purchase the property for $7.6 million in January, the Town closed on its acquisition on Tuesday, March 7. Situated between The Paddocks and Graham Lane, the tract includes three parcels at 200, 224 and 234 Jonesville Road.

"Ownership of this property strengthens our commitment to managing growth. We are grateful for the opportunity to buy this tract and essentially pause some development in the Jonesville Road area. In the coming months, Town Council will work with the community to determine the best use for this property," said Mayor Alan Perry.

The Town had recently received design plans for 88 to 93 single-family units to be built on the property in the Jonesville Road area. "This purchase highlights our focus and dedication to thoughtful land management. Our next step is to evaluate this land asset as part of our work to establish a growth management strategy and create the Jonesville Neighborhood District Plan. We want to do what is best for the community and appreciate the work of all involved in acquiring this property," said Town Manager Marc Orlando.
