Beaufort County is installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Bluffton Parkway and River Ridge Drive/Flat Creek Drive. Construction and installation will begin in early September and is expected to take 3-4 weeks, weather permitting.
This signal will create a safe crossing for students across Bluffton Parkway to River Ridge Academy as well as provide better egress from River Ridge Drive/Flat Creek Drive. The County just completed the design phase and is wrapping up the final pieces of right-of-way acquisition.
Walker Construction will begin the installation of a temporary wood pole signal in the next two weeks, which includes pedestrian features on the west side of the intersection.
The cost for the temporary signal is $114,560, and the project should start within two weeks.
The temporary signal will be in place for 6 to 9 months until the permanent signal poles and mast arms can be fabricated and delivered.
Phase II includes the mast arm installation, new curb ramps, and pedestrian features on all legs of the intersection and will be scheduled for summer 2023 to minimize the disruption to school traffic.
