The Town of Hilton Head Island Accommodations Tax (ATAX) Advisory Committee will begin accepting state ATAX grant applications on August 1, from Hilton Head Island-based organizations wishing to receive grants from the two percent (2%) state accommodations tax fund.
South Carolina law allows for a 2 percent tax levy on the rental of all temporary accommodations to help provide financial support to organizations to promote tourism and to help fund tourism-related activities in municipalities and counties within the state. As a result, individuals staying overnight in hotels, motels, inns, and vacation rentals pay 2 percent in addition to the statewide sales tax and any local sales and use tax applied to their lodging cost.
The application for calendar year 2023 accommodations tax funds will be available online at www.hiltonheadislandsc.gov beginning 8 am, Monday, August 1, 2022. The Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee will hold a workshop for applicants on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 9 am at the Hilton Head Island Town Hall. All applicants are invited, and new applicants are strongly encouraged to attend.
The application filing deadline is Friday, September 2, 2022, at 4 pm Applications will not be accepted or reviewed if received after this date and time. Questions regarding the application process should be directed to Cindaia Ervin at CindaiaE@hiltonheadislandsc.gov.
