Benjamin Brown, a community development professional with extensive experience in planning and project management, has been named Senior Advisor to the Town Manager, Hilton Head Island Town Manager Marc Orlando announced today.
"In this role, Ben will provide high-level, strategic counsel and leadership, help us build and maintain strong working relationships with our business community partners and elected officials, and help manage projects that have significant impact on our community," Orlando said.
"With his experience in leading large-scale capital programs, policies, strategic planning, visioning and development, Ben will be an asset to the Town’s leadership team and will be instrumental in helping us implement our strategic initiatives. He has been a part of our team before and we’re excited to have him back on the Town staff," Orlando said.
Brown has 20 years of experience in community development and planning. Most recently, he was Director of Planning and Property Operations for the Palmetto Dunes Property Owner's Association, where he was involved with a $50 million capital improvements program, building community facilities, and managing other priority projects such as roads, bridges, pathways, and beach accesses.
Other prior experiences include being the Vice President of Facilities and Development for Hilton Head Health and a Principal Planner for the Town of Bluffton. He also worked for the Town of Hilton Head Island for five years, rising from a Planning Assistant to Senior Planner of Development Review and Zoning.
Additionally, Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and public communication from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and is a Certified Manager of Community Associations. He has been extensively involved with community boards, including serving on the Town’s Design Review Board.
