The Town of Hilton Head Island announces the candidate filing period for the 2022 Municipal General Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, for the purpose of electing a mayor and Town Council members for Wards 2, 4, and 5.
Citizens who are interested in filing for candidacy may do so at Town Hall, 1 Town Center Court, starting at 8 a.m., Monday, August 1 until noon, Monday, August 15 during normal operating hours (8 am – 4:30 p.).
The Statement of Candidacy, which is required of any citizen interested in seeking an office, can be found on the Town's website at hiltonheadislandsc.gov/election/ and at Town Hall. It must be completed and signed at the time of submission. Candidates should bring a government issued photo ID and be prepared to submit a $50 filing fee for the Office of Mayor and $35 filing fee for the Office of Town Council. The fees, which are nonrefundable, can be paid by cash, credit card, or check made payable to the Town of Hilton Head Island.
Candidates should be aware of the following procedures and guidelines for filing:
- Candidates filing for the Office of Mayor must reside within the Town of Hilton Head Island.
- Candidates filing for the Office of Town Council may only run for the ward in which they reside.
- Candidates must currently be registered to vote in the Town of Hilton Head Island. Visit www.scvotes.gov/south-carolina-voter-registration-information to check your voter registration information.
- Candidates’ voter registration must match their current residence.
- This is a nonpartisan election. No political party affiliation will be placed on the ballot for any municipal candidate.
