City of Beaufort issued the following announcement on November 4.
BEAUFORT, S.C. (Nov. 4, 2021) – City Council will hold a public hearing on the final draft of the City’s 2021 Comprehensive Plan at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 during its regular meeting. Those who wish to comment may do so in person or via Zoom. (The Zoom link will be published with the Nov. 9 agenda later this week.)
This final draft has been a collaborative effort between city staff, the Lowcountry Council of Government planning staff, and DesignWorkShop consultants, and includes input received from diverse stakeholders.
In July, Community & Economic Development Director David Prichard presented the working outline of an updated Comprehensive Plan to City Council. This initial document incorporated relevant goals and objectives from the previous comprehensive plan, the Civic Master Plan, and the Strategic Plan as well as the Beaufort 2030 Vision Exercise.
In the months since, extensive input was solicited from a variety of stakeholders, from the general public to organizations such as USCB, Beaufort Jasper Water Sewer Authority, Historic Beaufort Foundation, Sea Island Corridor Coalition, Coastal Conservation League, the Marine Corps Air Station, our various chambers, neighborhood associations, and many others.
The City also set up a community engagement platform, and received several hundred comments through that.
Once the public hearing has been conducted, the next steps include:
Nov. 15: Final draft to Metropolitan Planning Commission
Nov. 30: Final draft to City Council at work session
Nov. 1-7: Incorporate final revisions
Dec. 14: City Council holds first reading of Comprehensive Plan
The final draft can be found here, with each element of the Comprehensive Plan broken out. City Planner Dan Frazier will accept email comments on the plan through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9.
