The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will launch a virtual public information meeting for the I-95 Widening: Savannah River to US 278 project on September 1, 2022.

The virtual meeting will be accompanied by an in-person public information meeting on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 5 pm – 7 pm at the newly constructed Hardeeville Recreation Center (285 John Smith Road). All the information that will be available in-person is available now on the project website, https://www.scdoti95widening.com/. The public is encouraged to review and make comments through September 30, 2022.

The purpose of this public information meeting is to present potential options for improvements to I-95 in this corridor along with the expected schedule. SCDOT is asking for meaningful input from the public and stakeholders, including information on historic and cultural resources.

“Improving the flow of people and goods on I-95 is a top priority for SCDOT,” said Secretary of Transportation Christy Hall. “As the first of several widening projects focused on the vitality of this interstate corridor, we understand the critical nature of right-sizing I-95, not only for today’s needs but also the anticipated future growth in economic opportunity and population in this region and the state.”

The public is encouraged to submit a comment between September 1 and September 30, 2022. Comments may be submitted on the project website, by email to info@www.scdoti95widening.com, or by mail (Attn. Craig Winn, 955 Park Street, Room 401, Columbia, SC 29202-0191).

A Spanish translator will be available at the public information meeting, and the public meeting handout is available in Spanish on the project website.

The I-95 Widening: Savannah River to US 278 project intends to improve capacity, mobility, and operations along this 10-mile corridor of I-95, which extends from approximately one mile into Georgia at the Savannah River to mile marker 9, just past US 278. The project will address operational deficiencies for interchanges and bridges within the corridor.

Comments must be postmarked or submitted electronically by September 30, 2022.
