Robert “Bob” Bromage has joined the Town of Hilton Head Island as its Director of Public Safety.

In this newly created role, Bromage serves as a member of the Town’s senior staff team and will lead development and implementation of Town-wide public safety initiatives, including the community code enforcement program. The position was approved in June as part of the Town’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget, which went into effect on July 1, 2022.

“We are pleased to have Bob on our team. As a longtime Island resident and veteran law enforcement officer, Bob brings vast knowledge of the community and public safety issues. He will be key in helping us expand our programs to keep our community safe,” said Town Manager Marc Orlando.

Bromage comes to the Town with 31 years of experience. Most recently, he was employed with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, where he ranked as a Major and served as the public information officer and lead cold case investigator.

Bromage earned associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in criminal justice, respectively from Armstrong State College, Park University and Anderson University. He is a graduate of the SC Criminal Justice Academy and the FBI National Academy.
