Natalie Harvey, an experienced leader in arts and culture, has joined the Town of Hilton Head Island as its new Director of Cultural Affairs.
“We welcome Natalie to the Town and look forward to her leadership of our Office of Cultural Affairs. With her extensive experience in arts programming and knowledge of Hilton Head Island’s rich culture and history, she will help carry out our strategic vision for integrating and supporting the arts in our community,” said Marc Orlando, Town Manager.
As Director of Cultural Affairs, Natalie is responsible for developing and implementing a civic plan for enhancement of the entertainment, arts, culture, and heritage assets of Hilton Head Island; working with arts and culture organizations and stakeholders across the region; and marketing the Island as a vibrant cultural destination.
Already well-established locally, Natalie brings 25 years of experience to the Town. She has spent those years at the Coastal Discovery Museum, where she held positions as vice president of history, vice president of programs, and most recently, vice president of collections and interpretation. In those roles, she managed exhibitions, coordinated lecture series, oversaw public art installations, organized special events and collaborated with cultural organizations on special projects, tours and events. Some of her major accomplishments include launching the Art Market at Historic Honey Horn, an annual outdoor fine art and craft festival, and publishing Images of America: Hilton Head Island, a photographic history of the Island. Natalie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Wake Forest University and Master of Arts degree in public history from the University of South Carolina.
Natalie volunteers with local arts organizations. She currently serves on the Arts Council of Hilton Head Island, where she has held several leadership positions, the Hilton Head Audubon board, and the Beaufort County Historic Preservation Review Board. As a former chair of the Arts and Cultural Council of Hilton Head, she led the organization in creating Crescendo, an annual celebration of arts and culture on Hilton Head Island.
