BEAUFORT, S.C. (Dec. 9, 2021) –  The City of Beaufort has received a $750,000 Community Development Block Grant that will be used for a streetscape and drainage project on Calhoun Street.

This project, which will go to bid in the first quarter of 2022, will include the installation of a closed drainage system, allowing stormwater runoff to be discharged to a nearby pond. All utilities will be placed underground, except for Dominion’s overhead transmission lines.

The two-lane street will be reconfigured to allow on-street parking on both sides, a 5-foot landscaped strip on both sides, and sidewalks on both sides. New lighting will also be installed.

The project is estimated to cost $3.6 million.
